Summary: The end of one life began another-the Scarlett Knight. It's not common to see her, but that's because she walks among the citizens herself-just like the people who'll hopefully change her life for the better. Rating may change, as well as summary :) Rated for cursing and possible gore.

	Scarlett Knight

She didn't know who the man was that was trying to slow the blood flow in her mother's room, but she knew why he was there. A dead buck lay three feet away, a double barrel on the ground another two feet further from that. The ten year old had been so happy just moments before, so full of wonder…

_A blonde woman kneeled next to her daughter among the trees, both watching the buck a mere three feet away-one with amber eyes, the other with crystal blue. It saw them, but didn't move-it watched them cautiously with muscles tensed and ready to flee. The older one turned her head, whispering quietly to the ten year old. "Kirsten…would you like to get closer?"_

_Kirsten gave a nod, trying not to scare away the tawny brown beauty. She stepped carefully with her mother not too far ahead, and she could almost touch it…_

_A shot rang out and the buck went down, spattering the child's winter coat with red. It scared her, yes, but what would happen next she would never forget for the rest of her life._

_The bullet had gone through the buck and lodged itself in her mother's stomach, the force knocking the older blonde off her feet. It didn't take long before the hunter emerged from the trees, quickly ripping off his coat and use it to soak up the blood. That was all she remembered clearly before the numbness settled in._

Now, with her golden blonde locks strewn across the snow covered ground, the blood that pooling under her body and staining the snow red, her mother's hand weakly lifted and grasped Kirsten's as she spoke with her dying breath.

"Take the key…sweetheart…I love you, Kirsten…"

And with those final words, her hand went limp, her head fell to the side, and her once crystal blue eyes lost their sparkle of life.

Kirsten had done as her mother said, slipping the key necklace from around her neck and running back to their property. She placed the key in her jewelry box, taking it into her mother's bed, as she screamed and hoped it wasn't real.

For the next year, she sobbed herself to sleep.

At the start of the second, she realized her mother wouldn't want her to cry, so she decided to relive the happy times…

* * *

It took another six years before Kirsten could bring herself to open the lock only her mother had the key to. And when she pushed open the door, she almost broke down into tears again.

Her mother's armor stood in the center of the small room, shield leaning against it's leg and the sword laying on the floor at its feet. Kirsten lifted the blade, looking at her reflection in the metal of the sword. She hoped her mother could hear her as she made a vow, a promise she had to keep.

"Mom, your wish ended before it could begin…I won't let it fade completely-I'll create a legacy for the Scarlett Knight…"
